About Me

Milly Headwear was born out of necessity. In the autumn of 2018, I lost 95% of my hair in just two and a half weeks and was diagnosed with alopecia areata incognito, which later developed into alopecia universalis.

Like many experiencing hair loss, I turned to wigs, hats, and scarves—but found them uncomfortable and impractical. They slipped throughout the day, drew unwanted attention, and never felt secure. Adjustable volumisers weren’t the solution either—lumpy seams left dents on my forehead, toggles pressed into my neck, and silicone bands irritated my sensitive skin.

Determined to create headwear that combined comfort and style, I began designing my own. By using a non-slip headband and removing all the features that caused discomfort, I developed a volumiser that felt secure, practical, and confidence-boosting enough to wear all day.

The response when I first wore my designs to my local Alopecia UK support group was immediate and encouraging. Motivated by this interest, I set up a home sewing studio and began developing a range of headwear that is versatile, practical, and genuinely comfortable. Tailored for all-day wear, each piece comes in a variety of colours and fabrics to help you feel fabulous, whatever your style.

Today, I collaborate with local wig fitters in hospitals and salons, and my wig bands are proudly endorsed by an award-winning trichologist—ensuring both quality and effectiveness.

My school nickname was Milly, and from that, Milly Headwear was born: thoughtfully designed from lived experience, with comfort, confidence, and real life at its heart.
